About Caroline Ashley

Caroline Ashley is an international expert on the contributions that business makes to development.  She is the Director of Ashley Insight, the Executive Editor of the Practitioner Hub for Inclusive Business, Results Director of Connect to Grow, and Advisor to Yara International.

Through Ashley Insight, she facilitates and analyses inclusive business - commercially sound business that tangibly involves people at the Base-of-the-Pyramid. She has been responsible for tracking results and drawing out lessons from inclusive business portfolios that span some hundreds of businesses in Africa and Asia. 

Caroline's 25 years' experience in development has included pioneering work with tourism operators on tourism-driven local development, and assessment of the impacts of business. In addition to work 'under the tree' in Africa and Asia, she has worked for the Overseas Development Institute, Namibian Government, US Congress, UK Parliament, and a host of bilateral, multilateral and private consultancy clients.

Carolin Schramm
Associate Consultant, Nairobi - CV

Carolin has ten years’ experience working in international development, specialised in private sector development, inclusive business and impact investment.  Previously, she worked at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), the German Development Agency (GIZ) and PwC’s international development team where she managed multi-year international donor programmes. Carolin’s specialist technical areas include design and implementation of monitoring & evaluation frameworks, inclusive business model appraisal and roll out of learning and communication strategies. She has worked in various developing countries including Kenya, Nigeria, Malawi, Zambia, India, Bangladesh and Peru.
Carolin holds an MSc in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science.


Lara Sinha

Associate Consultant, Mumbai - CV

Lara has broad experience working in communications and consulting within sustainability, inclusive business and impact investment. She engages directly with inclusive businesses and facilitating organizations as the Manager of the Practitioner Hub for Inclusive Business, generating content addressing the practicalities of inclusive business and developing partnerships with leading stakeholders in the sector.  She has also provided advisory services for a range of organizations including Forum for the Future and Business Call to Action.
Lara holds an MSc in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science.


Ellen Carey Maginnis

Associate Consultant, New York - CV

Ellen specializes in impact measurement for inclusive business and impact investing, she is currently focused on developing performance management frameworks that support businesses in reducing their negative / improving their positive social and environmental impact. Prior to becoming an independent consultant, she worked for the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) and led the development and promotion of IRIS, the impact measurement standard for the impact investment industry used by more than $11 billion in assets under management.  Ellen also has more than ten years of experience as a management consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers where she managed a variety of projects ranging from inclusive business challenge funds to investment climate programs in conflict affected countries.  She has on-the-ground experience working with entrepreneurs, investors, donors and governments in more than ten countries throughout Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
Ellen holds a BA in Applied Math and Economics and a MSc in Economics, both from Johns Hopkins University.


Anne Salter

Anne has close to five years’ experience in marketing and communications roles across a number of sectors both for profit and non-profit. Previously, Anne has worked with The Federation of Social Organisations of Costa Rica, Ashoka Mexico and Social Enterprise UK and has gained strong skills in brand management, global partnership working and data analysis. Anne has a special interest in the Latin America region and holds a BA in Spanish and Politics from The University of Southampton (UK) and a Master in International Relations from Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (Spain).
